Summer of Heros

Emily Belle Freeman and David Butler, do a video each week called Don't Miss This. It is to help us study our Come Follow Me lesson for Sunday School.  I really enjoy listening to them.  They are doing a fun activity called Summer of Heros.  They are going to spotlight one of the heros from the Book of Mormon every week.  They have a scripture that describes the hero and a challenge for us to do.  I am excited to study the hero each week!

                   1.  GIDEON-A MAN WHO HAS DONE MUCH GOOD AMONG PEOPLE
                                  * Challenge-Do something good for someone this week
Gideon | Book of Mormon Central
The first one is Gideon.  He was a faithful Nephite leader who opposed the wicked king Noah.  He chased him up a tower to kill him, but ended up sparing his life because Noah told him he wanted to help his people escape the Lamanites.  When the Lamanites daughters were abducted, Gideon reminded the king, that it was Noah's priests who had escaped into the wilderness, an that they were the ones that had probably abducted them, not his people. He was a great teacher and ended up leading his people back to Zarahemla by getting the guards drunk. He was killed by Nehor.
*My cute niece Stephanie, moved into a new house in Eagle Mountain, and just a few days later had surgery on her foot.  She has to stay off it for 6-8 weeks.  She didn't get unpacked before she had the surgery, so I was able to spend the day with her and her sweet family helping to get her kitchen set up.  It was so nice to do something for her that she couldn't do for herself.

2.  ALMA-THAT HE MIGHT PREACH THE WORD OF GOD AND STIR UP THE PEOPLE TO A REMEMBRANCE OF GOD
*Share the gospel message by example or opening your mouth
Alma the Younger Is Converted unto the Lord | Mosiah 27; Alma 36 ...
The second hero is Alma.  As a young man, he and the sons of Mosiah, had been causing all sorts of trouble.  Their fathers were awesome leaders in the church, but they did not follow their teachings.  They led people away from the church by their bad examples.  Then an angel came to them, and they were changed by what they learned from this experience.  They became great missionaries, and Alma gave up the judgement seat and spent his life teaching the gospel to everyone who would listen.
*I have been trying to make an honest effort to share my feelings about the gospel with my children and grandchildren more.  I have shared with several, some of my thoughts about what we are studying in our home church, and ask them to share what they are learning.

3.  AMULEK-LIVE IN THANKSGIVING DAILY
*Make a conscious effort to be grateful and count your blessings
Alma and Amulek Teach about Faith in Jesus Christ | Alma 31–34 ...
Amulek lived in the city of Amminihah.  When Alma was instructed to go back to Amminihah, he met Amulek, who was prepared to meet and help him.  He fed Alma and let him stay with him. He became his missionary companion, and went with Alma to preach to the people.  Accept the invitation for God to bless your life, live in thanksgiving ,  find a holy mentor and learn from him.

**It was nice to focus this week one being grateful for all of my blessings.  We are right in the middle of a horrible pandemic, but I'm so grateful, that my family and friends have all been safe.  We have a beautiful home to live in and to be safe in.I'm so grateful to be healthy and able to help others.  Today, I helped my mother in law, by cleaning out her pantry, and some of her drawers as well as cleaning her house.  We also went over to my father in laws house and cleaned his kitchen, and did his grocery shopping.
4.  ABISH-THE MARK OF A MISSIONARY, LIVING AS A WITNESS
*Deliver a treat to someone, ring their doorbell and run as Abish did
Why Was Abish Mentioned by Name? (With images) | Scripture study ...
Abish is one of the few women in the Book of Mormon, mentioned by name.  She was one of King Lamoni's wife's servants.  She was a believer, and when she saw the king, his wife, Ammon, and his servants fall to the ground, she knew something great was about to happen.  She ran and told everyone to come and see.  I love when she took the hand of the kings wife, and she stood up, and then everyone stood up and testified of the truths they had learned.
*We delivered treats to all our kids and grandkids, but didn't just leave them.  We wanted to stay and visit with them for a few minutes.
