Grandpa turns 94

On  January 11th, Grandpa Cliine turned 94 years old.  Sterling had given him a gift card to Cracker Barrel for Christmas, so he wanted to go there for lunch.  We had a great time and he ate everything on his plate, and there was a TON of food!
(I think it must have tasted better than the food at the assisted living place where he lives.)

We had a birthday party for him in the game room at Sunridge.  Josh and his kids were the first ones there so they helped me decorate. I brought paper, stickers and markers so the kids could make him  birthday cards.

He wanted a German Chocolate cake, so I made my friend Carolyn's delicious chocolate bunt cake.  ( I was so impressed that it came out of the pan perfectly, that I took a picture, but I totallly forgot to take one of it all decorated with the yummy German Chocolate frosting.)

Gabbie and Grandpa played games while they waited for the others to arrive.

The boys played dominos.

Grandpa had just gotten this shirt from his stepson, and tried it on and it felt so cozy, he wanted to keep it on.

I was better at getting pictures with him before everyone arrived. Josh's big girls and Merijane, were at Young Women's so they couldn't come.

Jordan brought his big boys, the rest stayed home because Savvy threw up right before they were ready to come.  Krista and Matt brought Sophie, the big girls were at Young Women's. Oliver had a basketball game, and Jamie is the coach, so their family didn't get to come either.

Steve and Lynn came.

Grandpa's sister Janis and her son Brent came from Orem.

It was such a nice evening.  He had had a really fun birthday. Two friends from Saratoga Springs came to visit him and they sang Happy Birthday to him at breakfast, so everyone wished him a happy birthday.  It was so unexpected when early in the morning on Jan. 14th just 3 days later, we got a call that he had passed away in his sleep.  Mike had had a nice visit with him the day before, and had no idea that would be the last time he would get to talk to him.  We are grateful, that we moved him so much closer to our house, so that we could visit with him so often.  He was a great man and a good example to all of us.  He will be missed!

  1. Happy Trails to you Grandpa Cline! What a great man you are! I loved how you share my love with the temple. I remember you going nearly every day it was open. You must have a lot of grateful people greeting you in heaven! I'm so glad I know you and Love you. So sorry for your loss Mike, but what a great way to pass to the other side, sleeping away!
